Bank reconciliation means checking that every transaction in your bank account matches a record in your books, and the other way round. It’s the single best habit for keeping your accounts accurate.
Why It’s Worth Doing
Unreconciled transactions hide problems: a customer payment recorded against the wrong invoice, a duplicated bill or a bank fee nobody entered. The longer they sit, the harder they are to untangle.
A simple month-end routine
- Import or enter the month’s bank transactions
- Match payments received to customer invoices
- Match payments made to bills and expenses
- Record anything left over, such as fees, interest or transfers
- Check that your closing balance matches the bank statement
Make It Smaller
The trick to a 30-minute month-end is not doing it all at month-end. Matching transactions once a week keeps the pile small and your memory fresh.
“If you reconcile weekly, month-end is just the last week.”
BizHub shows unreconciled bank lines on your dashboard, so you always know how much is left to match before you close the month.
